The Louisville Cardinals played and defeated the UC Bearcats in three different sports this weekend: football, soccer and volleyball. Football took the Bearcats into overtime, soccer won with seconds left and volleyball completed a sweep of their own.
Friday night the Cardinals overcame a ten point deficit twice in the game to win in overtime. John Wallace kicked a 30 yard field goal in overtime to give Louisville the victory. Teddy Bridgewater threw a career-best 416 yards and two touchdowns in the game. Preston Brown tallied up 13 tackles and his first ever interception. Bridgewater was named Big East Offensive Player of the Week and Brown Big East Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Saturday night the men’s soccer team took on UC in their last Big East and final regular season game in Cincinnati. The game was 0-0 with three seconds left before Paolo DelPiccolo took a free kick 30 yards out. DelPiccolo sent the ball into the box and Brock Granger got just a touch on the ball for the game-winner. The senior’s first collegiate goal. The Cards finished the regular season as Big East Red Division Champions and best record in the Big East at 7-1-0.
Sunday afternoon the Louisville volleyball team defeated the Bearcats 3-0 in their match in Cincinnati. The Cards won their games 25-21, 25-13 and 25-21. Gwen Rucker finished the match with 11 kills and four blocks on the day. Rucker was named to the Big East Honor Roll and the Cards moved to No. 12 in the coaches poll.
