"Battle for Atlantis"

The Louisville men’s basketball team will be enjoying Thanksgiving this year at Paradise Island in the Bahamas. The 2nd annual “Battle for Atlantis” gets underway Thursday afternoon. This years’ loaded field of 8 teams includes 4 ranked in the top 20, Louisville, Duke, Memphis and Missouri. The rest of the field includes Minnesota, Northern Iowa, Stanford and Virginia Commonwealth.
Louisville will face Northern Iowa in their opening game Thursday night at 9:30. Northern Iowa is 3-0 on the year coming off a 72-47 rout of North Dakota on Saturday. The Panthers are a veteran team with four seniors who will see significant playing time. Deon Mitchell leads the Panthers in scoring at just over 17 points a game.
The Cardinals are 3-0 as well after dismantling Miami (OH) on Sunday 80-39. This will easily be Louisville’s toughest match-up on the season thus far. Russ Smith is leading the Cardinal scoring attack with 21.3 points a game. The winner will face the Missouri/Stanford winner on Friday night.
