Louisville - Rutgers

With all the buzz about Louisville accepting a bid to become a member of the ACC in 2014 there is still a pretty important football game Thursday night in New Jersey. Most Cardinal fans remember the 2006 Thursday night game at Rutgers with a possible National Title shot on the line. Louisville got out to a big first half lead 25-7 only to be completely shut down in the 2nd half losing on a last minute field goal 25-28, a loss that still stings most Cardinal fans to this day. Fast forward to 2012 and a BCS Orange Bowl berth is on the line this time around.
Both teams are coming off bad losses the previous week. Rutgers was pounded at Pitt 27-6 while the Cards were stunned in triple overtime at home by UCONN. Louisville’s offense has not been the same since the loss of leading rusher Senorise Perry. For Louisville to have any chance they will need to get the running game going and keep Teddy Bridgewater on his feet and not on his back. Bridgewater was constantly pressured by the UCONN defense, knocking him out of the game in the 3rd quarter with a broken bone in his left hand. Bridgewater did return to the game and is expected to play. Senior QB Will Stein will likely see action as well. Two years ago Stein replaced injured QB Justin Burke and led Louisville to a win over Rutgers to become bowl eligible in their final game of the regular season. Louisville went on to defeat Southern Miss in The Beef-O-Brady’s Bowl in Tampa. This time Cardinal fans are hoping for a win Thursday night and a return trip to Florida for a bowl game, about 300 miles south in Miami.
