The 79th Allstate Sugar Bowl features the Louisville Cardinals (10-2) and the Florida Gators (11-1). Louisville won the Big East to earn the automatic bid while Florida’s #3 National ranking earned them one of the at-large bids. Not many of the experts are giving Louisville much of a chance in this one. Florida is a 2 touchdown favorite and most don’t think it will be that close.
For the Cards to have a chance, first, they will have to take care of the football and not turn it over. Second, they will need to keep Teddy Bridgewater on his feet and not on his back. Bridgewater is one of the nation’s most efficient passers completing 69% of his passes with only 7 interceptions on the season. If the O-line can give Teddy some time he may be able to find some holes in the Florida secondary. However, that won’t be easy as the Florida defense is ranked 5th in the nation and they are holding their opposition to just 13 points a game. Their secondary has 19 interceptions led by safety Matt Elam with 4.
The Gators offense is not the air raid attack of the past but more of the shove it down your throat ground game. They average almost 200 yds/game on the ground led by senior Mike Gillislee’s 95 a game. Their O-line should have no problem moving the ball on the Louisville defense.
Too many weapons on the Gators side of the ball for the Cards to overcome. It won’t be the blowout many are expecting, but the Gators should win, 28-23.
