Cards – Friars

Believe it or not, the Louisville men’s basketball team opened Big East Conference play on Wednesday night against Providence.  There was some other game going on that day as well and it was kind of a big deal.  Any who back to hoops, Russ Smith led the way with 23 points off the bench as Louisville was able to avoid the post UK let down defeating the Friars 80-62.

Providence got out of the gate quickly and took a 13-3 lead early in the first half.  Louisville responded with a 15-5 run to tie the game mid-way through the first half.  Louisville went to the locker room with a 37-31 lead.

The 2nd half was all Louisville the Cards shot 63% from the field for the half and the defense forced 10 2nd half turnovers.  Louisville improved to 13-1 on the season while the Friars fell to 8-5.  Gorgui Dieng had 11 points & 11 rebounds while Luke Hancock added 11 points as well.

Next up for the Cards they take to the road January 9 at Seton Hall.  Oh and that other game that took place Wednesday, the football team absolutely destroyed the Florida Gators in the Sugar Bowl.
