With two weeks left in the regular season, The Big East conference champion is still anyone’s guess. Currently, Georgetown sits atop of the conference with an 11-3 Big East record after beating Syracuse in the Carrier Dome on Saturday for their ninth straight win. The Hoyas still have road games at Connecticut and Villanova while hosting Rutgers and Syracuse the final game of the regular season. Syracuse, Louisville, and Marquette all sit just behind the Hoyas at 10-4 while Notre Dame is still in the mix at 10-5 and UConn at 9-5.
Syracuse and Marquette will square off tonight in Milwaukee. The loser will definitely need some help along the way to have a chance at the conference title. Marquette will host Notre Dame before closing out the season on the road at Rutgers and St. John’s. Syracuse seems to have the toughest road ahead with Louisville and Georgetown still on the schedule.
Louisville is on the road this week at DePaul and the previously mentioned match-up Saturday at Syracuse. The Cardinals close out the season at home hosting Cincinnati and Notre Dame. Louisville will be looking to avenge an earlier season loss that they gift wrapped the Irish at the end of regulation blowing an 8 point lead with :49 left eventually losing in the fifth overtime.
Not to be forgotten, the UConn Huskies are alive and have the easiest remaining schedule hosting Georgetown before road games at Cincinnati and South Florida returning home to host Providence. If the Huskies can run the table a 13-5 conference record may be enough to slide in and steal the conference title.
A long way to go in two weeks as we get ready for March Madness but these last two weeks should be exciting for Big East fans as well as all hoops fans so sit back and enjoy.
