Peyton Siva and Gorgui  Dieng both came up big in their final home game at The Yum Center this afternoon to lead the 8th ranked  Cardinals to a 73-57 win over 24th ranked Notre Dame.  Dieng was 8-11 from the field with 20 points and 11 rebounds while Siva chipped in 13 points that included three 3-pointers and 5 assists.  The win was the seventh in a row for Louisville whose last loss was the 5 overtime heart-breaker to the Irish back on February 9.

Siva, Dieng and Mike Marra were all honored today at the Yum Center before today’s game.  Siva’s four year career at Louisville is coming to an end, a career that has included a Final Four appearance as well as the Big East Tournament title last year.  Siva was also named MVP of the Big East tournament last year and will leave Louisville number 2 in career assists only trailing La Bradford Smith.

Dieng who is a junior is projected to be an NBA lottery pick will forego his senior season.  Dieng has come a long way in his 3 years at Louisville.  He is one of the nation’s leaders in blocked shots and is averaging 10 points, 10 rebounds a game.

Marra’s career unfortunately has been plagued by injuries including one back in September that ended his season before it began when he tore his ACL in his left knee. Last season he only played in 2 games before the same injury occurred.  Marra has been a graduate assistant this season for Coach Rick Pitino and wants to get into coaching.

Today Marra was named the honoree coach by Pitino and his coaching career is off to a good start.

Next up for Louisville is the Big East Tournament where they will be the 2 seed and will have a double bye and will play on Thursday night at 7pm.
