Lots of speculation throughout the day was pointed at the fact that, in 2014, in what would be their first season in the ACC, Louisville could be playing the greatest program in college football, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Now, the Cards play Big East foe Notre Dame in basketball every year, but since Notre Dame is an independent in football, it’s been some time since the teams last played. In fact, the two teams have NEVER played. Needless to say, it’s a definite blip on the national radar of the Cards. Playing Notre Dame in South Bend really shows that UofL has worked its way into national attention. UofL’s football twitter account tweeted it around 1 pm, and ESPN’s own Brad McMurphy followed it up with a tweet of his own:
Official: Louisville will play at Notre Dame in 2014

ND’s ACC foes: 2014-Home: UNC, UL, Wake; At FSU, SU; 2015-Home: BC, GT; At Clem, Pitt, UVa; 2016-Home: Duke, UM, VT; At: NCSU, SU

So, it appears that the most prestigious team in college football will be playing a team whose program has been comical at times, but looks to have finally found their niche as a top-tier program under Coach Strong. I don’t know how this game will play out, but I can tell you one thing-there sure will be a lot of red in South Bend on that Saturday. Here’s a little premature GO CARDS.
