Today, Louisville landed another commit from the state of Florida, the newest addition being 6’4″ WR Desean Blair. Blair, a 3-star player and a native of Jacksonville, FL, committed to Louisville over an hour ago after attending last week’s Spring Game and visiting Coach Strong this weekend. He turned down offers from Vandy, Maryland, Iowa State, and Temple.
This brings me to my next point-Florida is quickly turning into a recruiting pipeline for the Cards under Coach Strong. Many quality players have come out of Florida in the Charlie Strong era, including Heisman-Hopeful QB Teddy Bridgewater, who is from Miami. This year, it’s looking like Coach Strong is going to have even more solid recruits from the Sunshine State. It’s still early, but Strong has 8 commits for the 2014 class; FIVE of those eight are from Florida. It’s obvious Strong knows his way around the state’s recruiting circus, after having been DC at the University of Florida for about 7 years. He’s still got some pull in the area, and has excellent recruiters like Ron Dugans going out and getting those commitments. Dugans has managed to get commits from 3 players this year, all of which are from Florida (Dugans himself is from Tallahassee).
2014 FLORIDA COMMITS:
- Desean Blair (WR); 3-star, 6’4″, 185 lbs
- Kavaris Harkless (OT); 3-star, 6’5″, 275 lbs
- Jeff Williams (OLB); 3-star, 6’1″, 200 lbs
- Marques Gayot (S); 3-star, 6’1″, 205 lbs
- Michael Johnson (S); 3-star, Louisville’s best recruit so far, 6’3″, 190 lbs
From the way that recruiting has gone so far this year, expect Strong and the Cards to delve deeper into the recruiting annals of the State of Florida. Florida is one of the “Big Three” in recruiting (California and Texas being the others). If you can set up shop there and get a feel for it, your recruits will be tremendous and your team will improve, as has been the case with Louisville. The 2014 class is ranked in the top 15 nationally at the moment. If Coach Strong can continue to pick up great Florida recruits this year and in the future, look for Louisville to be poised for success.
Louisville now has eight commitments in the Class of 2014, including five from the state of Florida.
