Louisville Ranked No. 4 in ESPN’s VERY Early Preseason Football Poll

Basketball season is over, and we are currently in the transition stage of moving towards football.  Last year’s success was phenomenal for the Cards, who hope to be matching, if not besting that success.  All signs point to what I said, the main one being that Heisman Hopeful Teddy Bridgewater is returning on offense for the Cardinals.  Well, other people seem to agree with me.  ESPN has just released a very early preseason poll, in which the Top 5 includes:

  1. Ohio St
  2. Alabama
  3. Oregon
  4. Louisville
  5. Stanford

Below is a link to the article from ESPN’s Mark Schlabach, who cites numerous reasons for his pick of Louisville at number four.  Reasons that he believes the Cards will duplicate last season’s success is:

  • Return of Teddy Bridgewater, as well as having 19 other starters returning.
  • Weak Schedule; bad non-conference play as well as easy Big East road games.
  • Three quality Florida transfers in Robert Clark and Gerald Christian.
  • Return of Dominique Brown after having a knee injury that sidelined him for all of last season

Hopefully Schlabach is correct in his projection.  I’d love to see the Cardinals have a nice cushion at No. 4 to start off the season.  It’s a long time until then though, so the Cardinals definitely need to keep preparing.  No matter who is on their schedule, or what star you have on your team, you aren’t guaranteed to win.  Louisville needs to have that mindset and I think Coach Strong won’t let them have any other.  Every game matters.  Go Cards.
