In what wound up as becoming their eighth sweep of the season, as well as their seventh consecutive win, the Louisville Cardinals defeated the Villanova Wildcats today 6-2, in what was typical of what we had seen all series long. Now, I’m not saying this is like a sweep of some Big East powerhouse; Villanova is 11-36 and have just had an abysmal year.
Just as they did in the previous two games of the series, Louisville came out hot and heavy. They were eating the Villanova pitchers alive and hitting so well. And we must give credit to the men of the game, the first being Dace Kime, a UofL pitcher who had 10 K’s, allowing 1 run off of only three hits. Kime improved to 4-1 on the season, and winning his second game in one week. Adam Engel also had a terrific game, going 3-5 with one RBI and a run. The Cards handed it to VU once again and are having a terrific late-season surge.
The Cards will have four more games to play this week, including a double-header on Saturday at UConn. The other games include an away match against EKU on Tuesday, then a home match on Wednesday against Indiana at 6 pm in what is the team’s “Cancer Awareness Night.” Come out and support the team! Remember, all UofL Baseball games are free and have free parking!
There’s two weeks left in the regular season, and UofL is one game out of first place in the Big East Conference Title race with its conference record at 14-4. USF and Pitt are tied for first at 15-3. The Cards are surging, and will hopefully snag that top spot away with a series sweep of UConn this coming weekend.
