If you’re from the state of Kentucky, you probably know of a little brand of bourbon by the name of Maker’s Mark. Year after year, they feature commemorative bottles that feature sports personalities (like Charlie Strong in 2012). This year, they’re bestowing that honor upon none other than Louisville Basketball Coach Rick Pitino, with proceeds benefiting the Academic Center of Excellence.
You see, Maker’s Mark has a three-year deal with the school and each year, they are putting someone different on each bottle. Last year, Strong was on the bottles, and Pitino is on this year’s, the second of the three-year series deal. 12,600 of the bottles will be available for purchase this year.
By the way, for those who were wondering what the Academic Center of Excellence is, it’s a complex that will be located at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium and will be the headquarters of academics for the entire athletic department. The fundraising is underway now, and Maker’s Mark has pledged $500,000 to the cause.
