Louisville Guard Shoni Schimmel Earns High National Honors

It was announced today that Louisville Women’s Basketball Guard Shoni Schimmel has been honored with one of the 12 spots available on the USA Basketball Women’s World University Games team.  She’s been trying out for the past three days, and has earned one of the 12 spots out of the 33 athletes selected to try out.   She’ll be playing in the games this summer in Kazan, Russia from July 8-15.

The US team will begin its play in Group B, facing Belarus, the Czech Republic, and Brazil.  The top two teams from the four groups move on to play in medal games.  I know all Cards fans have got to be excited for Shoni as she is about to take part in a very beneficial experience, letting her play great world teams.  She’s going to gain so much more experience from this than she ever would in an NCAA basketball game.  I mean, she’s also getting to be teammates with some of the best players from the United States as well and learn from them.  This all points to her having a great season next year, after their recent Final Four run and this world play experience.  Looking forward to 2013-14. Go Cards!
