In the second in our Brief Preview series, we take a quick look at the September 7th matchup of Eastern Kentucky at Louisville. The game is scheduled to start at noon ET and will be on ESPN3 for sure. This game comes 6 days after the Ohio game, which I predicted that the Cards will, and is one week before the Kentucky game.
Eastern is coming off of a great season last year, going 8-3 overall and 6-2 in conference play, while finishing in the top 25 rankings in the FCS, with their highest ranking earned coming at 16 in weeks 5 and 11. Next season will probably be about the same for the Colonels, as there’s only a few Ohio Valley Conference teams that could challenge them (UT-Martin, Jacksonville State, and Eastern Illinois).
Honestly, I don’t see EKU having a chance in this one. They’re Louisville’s only FCS team on the schedule and, barring some Appalachian State-type miracle, Louisville should dominate this one from beginning to end. I see Louisville winning this one 49-14 and heading to Commonwealth Stadium the next week with a 2-0 record.
