Today was the final game of the NBA Summer League for the Detroit Pistons, which meant that it was newly-drafted point guard Peyton Siva’s last opportunity to prove to the Pistons’ Executives that he should be signed. I think he did a pretty good job convincing them.
Siva played for 29 minutes of the entire game, and proved his worth in that timespan. He showed what he had done in one previous Summer League game: that he wasn’t afraid to drive the basket or shoot the ball. Siva wound up with nine points off of 4/11 shooting and going 1/1 from the free throw line. He also went 0-1 from three. Siva also was able to get nine assists, due to his generosity and ability to find the open man. He set up players time and time again for easy baskets, a staple of Siva-Brand Basketball.
Perhaps the stat that made me the happiest of all is Siva’s steals number. Siva finished today’s game with SEVEN steals. Absolutely fantastic. Granted, he’s going up against Summer League players, but he’s one as well! He may have had two turnovers, but he more than made up for it in his steals total.
The sad part of all of this is that Siva was well on his way to a double-double, if not a triple-double in the game, but suffered a sprained ankle that forced him to come out. All is well though, as he’s fine now that the game is over. I really hope he makes this Pistons squad. He deserves it so much and Detroit is low on guards and can’t really afford to be picky.
Please do the right thing, Joe Dumars. I can guarantee you’ll have an extra 700,000+ fans because of it.
