Two Louisville Players Named to the Thorpe Award Watch List

This is one of the best 10 days of college football preseason, as it is time for preseason award watch lists to be released.  The one being released today is the Jim Thorpe Award watch list.  The Thorpe Award is a trophy that’s annually awarded to the top collegiate defensive back.  Last year’s recipient was Johnthan Banks, a Mississippi State CB.

When the watch list was released this year, I did my typical routine.  I go to the page of the names, press CTRL+F and type “Louisville”.  As I’ve been accustomed to throughout this watch list period, I saw two names pop up:  Calvin Pryor and Hakeem Smith.

Smith and Pryor have been on a few watch lists to start the season out.  Watch lists don’t really mean anything, but it’s fun to pretend that they do.  When two Louisville players are recognized like this, you just can’t help but be happy.

The full watch list can be found here.

Watch lists released tomorrow are the Butkus Award and the Rotary Lombardi Award.  Be on the lookout.
