Earlier yesterday, it was announced on the ESPYS’ red carpet ceremony that Rick Pitino had won the ESPY for Best Coach/Manager. While we didn’t get the Russ Smith acceptance speech we were hoping for, we still got to see Rick Pitino add another award to his collection.
Of the three Cardinals-related people/teams nominated, Pitino was the only one to win. UofL Alumna Angel McCoughtry was nominated for Best WNBA Player but lost to Candance Parker, and the UofL Women’s Basketball Team lost the Best Upset Award to the Florida Gulf Coast Men’s Basketball Team.
Even though Pitino won, and rightly so, I believe that the UofL Women’s Basketball Team should’ve easily won the Best Upset Award. I mean, FGCU had a great run, but the prospect of beating this Baylor Team seemed impossible. The only people that thought Louisville would win was the Louisville Team themselves. They pulled off the impossible and deserved that award.
Twitter, your response?
Florida Gulf Coast wins Biggest Upset. FYI were only a 12-point underdog. U of L women were 26-point underdog.

How is FGCU over G’Town an upset. Everyone knows G’Town doesn’t advance past the first week
