2014 Baseball Captains Announced

After the marvelous 2013 baseball season for Louisville, there’s a whole slew of players who deserve to be captain for the 2014 baseball team.

Sadly, only a few captains can be selected.  Those two are designated hitter Jeff Gardner and outfielder Cole Sturgeon.  Gardner and Sturgeon, both Kentucky natives, are veterans on this team and have been leaders and key players in their previous three seasons, combining for more than 260 starts.

Both players played terrifically last season, with Gardner earning First Team All-Big East honors, due to hitting .337, nine homers, and 43 RBI’s.  Sturgeon had a team-best .339 average, hit 1 homer, and 33 RBI’s.

We’ll see if the Cards can continue the success of last season’s team, one that really began to open Louisville Fans’ eyes’ to the wonderful American pastime that is baseball.
