The Santa Monica guard New Williams is a four star player in the 2015 class, but up until now, he’s not gotten much attention from teams outside of his home state of California and surrounding areas like Arizona and Oregon.

All of that changed last night when Williams received an offer from the defending national champions-the Louisville Cardinals. Up until this point, the biggest schools Williams received offers from were Oregon and Arizona State, mixed in with some regional schools like Loyola Marymount, San Diego State, and Pepperdine. This could have a ripple effect, as when one large school is the first to offer a player, many more will begin to follow suit.
Williams would be a good pick up for the 2015 class for Pitino, as two great guards in the 2014 class (Louisville’s own Quentin Snider and star recruit JaQuan Lyle) have recently de-committed. We’ve certainly got a while to see his decision or how his rankings will improve, but it’s good that Louisville is one of the first big-name teams to offer him, as the message that offer sends will stick with Williams for a while.
