Thursday the Cards are set to square off against the Temple Owls in AAC action on the road. Louisville will face the Owls in the first of two meetings this year coming off a long lay-off after a win at Houston. The Cardinals will be set to go at full strength with Wayne Blackshear back in the lineup after missing the trip to Houston with a mild concussion.
Rick Pitino has turned up the focus on defense this week and looks to limit touches in the paint by the opposition. Another major focus for the Cardinals is their defensive rebounding, something that has hurt the Cards in multiple games this year, particularly in games they have lost.
I look for Louisville to go back to their small lineup that they experimented with before Wayne’s injury, with him manning the four spot. I believe this lineup gives the Cards the best chance to make a deep run in the tournament because it puts the 5 best players on the floor, and though it makes them small, it creates matchups in the Cards’ favor on the offensive side of the floor. With four of their last five games against top 25 teams, Louisville needs to take care of business in Philadelphia and I look for them to do just that.
