Louisville’s Women 3rd in AP Poll: Yet a 2 Seed in Bracketology

Louisville’s women continue their path toward a high seed in hopes of making it to back to back final fours for the first time in school history.  Louisville is ranked 3rd in this weeks Associate Press poll behind conference rival UConn and former conference foe Notre Dame, both of which are undefeated.  Despite being ranked 3rd, ESPN’s Charlie Creme has the Cardinals as a 2 seed in #1 UConn’s bracket.  Creme has Stanford, South Carolina, UConn, and Notre Dame getting the 1 seeds.  Though I think as of right now the Cardinals deserve one of the top seeds, I see the problem with doing so.  South Bend, Stanford, Louisville, and Lincoln are regional host sites.  The selection committee will of course put Notre Dame in South Bend, leaving Louisville as the closest place for UConn.  I believe Louisville should be ahead of Stanford and South Carolina in the seeding, but I could see the committee keeping Louisville at home as a 2 seed with no where else to put UConn.  This would put a major hurdle in Louisville’s way of making it back to yet another final four.  Would you prefer to be a 1 seed in Lincoln and not be in UConn’s bracket, or be a 2 seed at home and have to face the Lady Huskies in the elite 8?  Let’s just hope Notre Dame drops 2 or 3 before seasons end and UConn can be the #1 in South Bend with Notre Dame as the 2.

It’s the same bullshit logic that is being used for the mens team! Let’s be honest, do we really think the selection committee will give a team ranked in the top 5 a 5 or 6 seed?? No way.
