As Louisville sandwiches high 30 degree days with a 70 degree day, it can only mean one thing, spring is here. And spring football this year for the Cards, looks to be as exciting as ever. Bobby Petrino has made practices open to public, which is a change from the last staff and has outlined what he is looking for this spring. As with any new staff, Petrino has expressed that this spring the main priority is learning the new schemes and terminology on both defense and offense. Petrino expressed how important it is to have competition within a team and looks for there to be plenty of it at the skill positions and all positions on defense. Coach P is worried about the lack of depth of the offensive line and tight end position but has said that he’s excited about the upperclassmen that we are returning at those positions.
The biggest question mark for the Cards going into spring is who is going to replace arguably the best collegiate quarterback Louisville has produced. Coach Petrino is excited about the guys we have on the roster and has been impressed with the knowledge and physical abilities that they have shown thus far. Many expect Will Gardner to be the front runner going into spring, but the position is up for grabs, as is every position going into an exciting first year in the ACC.
I look for Louisville fans and media to show up in bunches at the spring game and see a group of determined men competing at a top level to be the number one guy at their position. We are in for a heck of a ride this year and it’s an exciting time to be a Cardinal fan.
