Recruiting locally has been an ongoing battle for Louisville football, but with the new practices of Scott Satterfield in place can the Cards land any top talent from the state in the class of 2020?

Watching Rondale Moore, a Trinity High School product and former Louisville football “recruit,” tear up the Big Ten last season for Purdue and not wear the red and black was one of the most disheartening things about a season that had so much go wrong for the Cards.

After growing up a huge Louisville football fan as a kid, and being literally in the backyard of Bobby Petrino and staff, somehow the staff prioritized other players and missed out on one of the nation’s top freshmen in 2018.

Moore wasn’t the only one who the Cards missed out on. After the firing of Bobby Petrino and the Louisville staff, more and more came to light about the relationships, or lack thereof between the former staff and local high school recruits and coaches.

When Scott Satterfield was hired as the new head coach of the Louisville football program, rebuilding the relationships with local high school coaches and AD’s as well as “opening the doors back up” was one of the top priorities when it came to changing the culture. In his opening press conference Satterfield spoke boldly, saying:

"“High school coaches, the region right here, right here in Louisville, come watch our practices,” Satterfield said. “Our doors are open. The closed doors are no longer. We’re going to open it up.”"

While it was too late for the new staff to jump into the recruitment of some of the most talented players the state had in quite some time, which unfortunately was a win for Purdue and Kentucky, there is ample time for recruiting another talented crop of local talent in the class of 2020.

With several highly touted there and four star players still available in the class of 2020, let’s take a look at who the new staff may be targeting and who they might have a legit chance at landing.
