The Louisville football defense continued to improve

We all loved what we saw from the Louisville football defense in a close loss on the road at Notre Dame. However, many doubted if the Cardinals could continue that upward trajectory this week against FSU.

What we saw this week was confirmation that Louisville is continuing to take a step forward across the board on the defensive side of the ball.

Even without defensive end Yaya Diaby, the Cardinals held former Louisville quarterback Jordan Travis in check running the ball, and the secondary knocked away multiple dangerous passing plays.

Overall, Louisville forced Florida State into a 14-for-41 day in the passing game and limited the Noles to 141 yards passing.

Louisville inside  linebacker CJ Avery led the team in tackles with 12 and accounted for a 6-yard sack. Fellow linebacker Rodjay Burns had eight total tackles and did a fantastic job of limiting the fleet-footed Travis when he got outside the pocket.

Louisville appeared to mix things up, especially among the back eight players. There were multiple situations where strong safeties Jack Fagot and Isaiah Hayes were in together and Louisville rotated corner Kei’Trel Clark to a safety spot situationally.

The Cardinals showed that they have a bit of versatility and flexability on the defensive side of the ball. As some of the back ups get a little more time on the field, Louisville football continues to develop talented depth.

Now, Louisville has allowed 13 points per game in the last two match-ups, which is a marked improvement from the first four games.
