Louisville football is set to face off against Charlotte this coming Thursday. Which players should you be watching for in this early season match-up?

The long off-season is coming to a close as Louisville football and Charlotte are preparing to square of against each other in less than a week. This early season match-up will be a good game for Louisville to continue to work on their game, while it will be a very tough test for Charlotte.

It goes without saying that the Cardinals have high expectations going in 2016. Conference foes, Clemson and Florida State, pose the biggest threat against Louisville’s conference title dreams. The Cards haven’t beaten either school yet since joining the ACC. This may be the year that they come up with an upset.

Quarterback Lamar Jackson has reportedly improved greatly this off-season, giving every writer in the country an opportunity to name him as a “dark-horse” candidate for the Heisman Trophy.

Defensively, the Cardinals lost defensive tackle, Sheldon Rankins, to the NFL Draft, but return a number of experienced starters.

All the preseason polls, predictions and hype will cease to exist when college football opens it’s doors next weekend. Louisville doesn’t draw a tough opponent in week one, but season-dictating games loom right around the corner.

Fans will see the depth that Louisville has during this game. There are many guys who will see the field this season, but the starters could be used sparingly in this contest. Especially, if it becomes a blow-out early on in the game.

Its important for Louisville to come out and impose their will on a low-level football team in the Charlotte 49ers. Cardinal fans are ready to get the season started and Papa Johns Cardinal Stadium will erupt at the first touchdown of the season.

Louisville head coach Bobby Petrino will have his guys ready to go, come Thursday night. Here are the 15 players to watch in the game against Charlotte.
