The AAF kicked off it’s inaugural season last weekend, with several former Louisville football players on rosters. Here are five more former Cards we’d like to see in the league in the future.

Football in February? Sign me up. While I typically enjoy a break from football with basketball in the full swing of things, the AAF showed some serious potential in it’s first weekend of games and I’m intrigued. With several former Louisville football players already on rosters for the Atlanta Legends and Memphis Express, the league has my interest even more.

Some of the names currently rostered include James Quick, Keith Towbridge, Dontez Byrd, and Charles Standberry Jr, all whom had nice careers for Louisville (aside from Byrd who never got the chance to play under Petrino and transferred to Tennessee Tech).

The point of the league is to have players on rosters that geographically match the part of the country where they went to school. With Louisville being close to a few of the teams, including Atlanta and Memphis, it won’t be surprising to see more players on rosters in the future.

The football program under Bobby Petrino and Charlie Strong pumped out a bunch of NFL caliber players, including having 25 players drafted between 2008 and 2018, while countless others have gone undrafted and had short stints with their respective teams.

Unfortunately for these players, several of them didn’t achieve the success in the NFL that they hoped to or that their draft position might have indicated they would. And until now, there was no league for them to develop and get a second chance.

With that being the case we put together a list of five former Louisville football players who we’d like to see get a chance in the newly put together AAF.
