Louisville football has been consistently involved in the Transfer Portal early on, as the Cardinals have not only landed four commitments from the portal but also recruited from within and learned that Clev Lubin and Isaac Brown will return. The Cards are coming off a 9-4 season for the second straight year, and with Jeff Brohm looking to get his Cardinals back to the ACC Championship game, he is trending with multiple transfer prospects.
Louisville has been in contact with numerous transfers and has already received visits from them or expects to receive more. The Cardinals fans love the start to this offseason, but they aren’t done just yet. So, after Louisville landed two commitments from the portal yesterday and brought Brown back for his junior season, here are two dream, two reach, and two realistic Transfer Portal targets for Louisville football.
6. Dream - Tyler Thompson
Louisville logged a defensive lineman commitment from Daylen Russell, and hopefully, someone who is coming next is the North Carolina transfer, Tyler Thompson. Louisville has lost numerous DL to the portal and to eligibility, including key pieces like AJ Green and Wes Bailey.
With Louisville having to replace over 20 sacks from the 2025 season, the Cardinals quickly reached out and earned a visit from the UNC transfer. The Cardinals have been prioritizing the trenches early, and Thompson is someone who stands out at the edge position.
The North Carolina transfer ranks No. 135 in the portal and is the 16th-best edge rusher. He has a combined 34 tackles after three seasons with the Tar Heels, including last season, where the former 4-star high school recruit logged 26 tackles, 7.5 tackles for a loss, 7.0 sacks, two forced fumbles, and one pass deflection.
