Late Goal Lifts Cards

The Louisville men’s soccer team traveled to Tampa on Wednesday and came away with a 2-1 win over the 19th ranked South Florida Bulls. A match that was televised nationally on ESPNU, saw both teams receiving numerous cards for physical play. The win moved Louisville to sole possession of 1st place in the Big East Red Division, improving their conference record to 5-1 and 9-4-1 overall.
Louisville got on the board first in the 25th minute when Andrew Farrell headed in a corner kick that snuck by USF keeper Dallas Jaye. The Bulls tied it up 9 minutes later on a Roberto Alterio goal. The half ended tied at 1-1.
Both teams had opportunities in the 2nd half to score, Louisville’s Dylan Miles shot on goal early in the 2nd half was saved by Jaye. But in the 82nd minute it was Louisville’s Ryan Smith with the go ahead score that put the Cards up 2-1. A late push by the Bulls was not to be as the Louisville defense was able to stave off any shots on goal in the final minutes.
Next up the Cards will host Villanova this Saturday at 7pm at Cardinal Park.
