Former Louisville baseball star Corey Ray has struggled out the gate in the Florida State League.

The 2016 MLB Draft 5th Overall pick and former Louisville Cardinals outfielder, Corey Ray made his debut for the Brevard County Manatees over the past four games. According to MiLB, Ray is currently hitting .118 with 2 hits and 2 RBI in 4 games with the Brewer’s Advanced Class-A affiliate. Ray will be playing in the Florida State League this summer as he begins his career with the Milwaukee Brewers.

With two hits in his last three games, Ray should start to pick up where he left off at Louisville; hitting .310 with 15 Home Runs and 60 RBI’s in his junior season, according to the The Baseball Cube.

Ray was a phenomenal five-tool outfielder for the Louisville baseball team. Louisville manager, Dan McDonnell played Ray at all three outfield positions during his junior year, preparing Ray for the next level. Ray has a rare combination of speed and power that will help Ray begin to separate himself from other MLB prospects as he advances through the minor league levels.

Ray was the highest Major League Baseball draft-pick in University of Louisville history and has all of the tools to be a perennial All-Star at the next level. The Brewers are not a team excelling at the Major League level and are sure to be counting on Ray to develop into their star outfielder.

This early season slump is nothing to worry about for Card fans and Corey Ray. He will get used to the pitching at the next level and be well on his way to climbing through the ranks. Be sure to keep up with Corey Ray and the Brevard County Manatees this summer as he begins to heat up and make his mark on professional baseball.
