ICYMI: Ex-Louisville football player William Gay jokes with John Calipari

Former Louisville football defensive back taped a “Louisville Rules” sign on his back during Steelers’ training camp.
No matter the sport, the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville both draw the best out of eachother when they meet in competition. There is definitely no lack of competitiveness between the two schools. However, it is good to see some good clean fun every now and then between the two sides.
Earlier this week, former Louisville football and current Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back William Gay posted a “Louisville Rules” sign on his back at Pittsburgh’s training camp, knowing he was standing directly in front of Kentucky basketball head coach, John Calipari.
Here is ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler’s recollection of the events:
"Gay, a former Louisville player, wrote “Louisville Rules” on a sheet of paper that he taped to the back of his T-shirt for warmups. Gay showed the message to Calipari, who busted out laughing and took a picture of Gay.“I never lost to Kentucky,” said Gay, Pittsburgh’s starting corner. “I play football.”Calipari joked that maybe Gay’s Cardinals lost to Memphis, where Calipari previously coached.“That’s a great picture,” said Calipari, looking into his phone at the picture he just shot."
I think this is definitely a story that both sides can enjoy. However, it does bring up a very interesting point. As of late, Kentucky basketball has been dominating Louisville. Kentucky has won eight of the last nine basketball games against Kentucky, whereas Louisville football has won the last five straight football games between the two schools.
John Calipari and William Gay have been very successful against the other’s school. This is definitely the type of rivalry trash talk that could have kept both of them going for hours. The truth is that Louisville football and Kentucky basketball have been the consistent top dogs of the two sports between eachother.
Kudos to Gay and Calipari for keeping this lighthearted. This is what college rivalries are all about.
