Louisville football: 15 players to watch in the Charlotte game
By Derek Snyder
This is one of the more interesting players on the Charlotte football team. You don’t see to many guys like Johnson making the switch to running back after being the team’s best quarterback throughout their collegiate career.
Johnson has a big body that will be hard for anyone to bring down. Louisville’s defense needs to really focus on their tackling technique when going after this guy.
Here is what College Football News had to say about Johnson:
"Charlotte’s all-time leading passer Matt Johnson wasn’t even in the race for the quarterback job this spring, but he’ll still have an impact in the backfield. The 6-3, 233-pound senior has a new home as a hybrid running back, who’ll be used in a variety of unique roles, including taking direct snaps in “wildcat” formations. For a team that struggled on third downs, Johnson will be a particular asset in short yardage and goal line situation"
While Johnson may not make or break the game for Charlotte, he will be a major factor on short downs. Louisville needs to keep the 49ers to third and longs during this game to avoid having to deal with Johnson taking the ball out of the backfield.
You never know what could be up the offensive coordinator’s sleeve when he has a quarterback carrying the football.
