Louisville Football: Inside the numbers of the Kentucky Wildcats
By Derek Snyder
Wildcats’ Defense:
If the Wildcats have a weakness, it’s definitely with their rushing defense. They give up way too many yards on the ground and struggle enormously with mobile quarterbacks. If you remember, they couldn’t even touch Lamar Jackson in the game in Lexington last season. I expect more of the same result, as Jackson has improved greatly since last November.
Here is where the Cats rank among the other Southeastern Conference teams in defense:
9th in the SEC in Total Defense
11th in the SEC in Rushing Defense
6th in the SEC in Passing Defense
13th in the SEC in Sacks
Don’t let the passing defense statistic fool you. Kentucky is 6th in passing yards allowed per game because teams just run all over them. They are at the bottom of the conference in stopping the run, which should give the Cardinals’ offensive line a break after playing two great front sevens in a row.
