Louisville Basketball: Breaking down potential graduate transfer options
By Jacob Lane
Several big-time graduate transfers have received interest from Louisville basketball head coach Chris Mack this offseason. Let’s take a look at who could join the 2018-19 roster.
Chris Mack will have at least three scholarships to fill for the 2018-19 Louisville basketball roster, and that number could be even higher if junior forward Deng Adel decides to keep his name in the NBA Draft, or any number of players decide to transfer.
Louisville will for sure be losing senior guard Quentin Snider, a local hometown legend. Senior big man Anas Mahmoud, and junior forward and the team’s second leading scorer Ray Spalding, who decided to keep his name in the 2018 NBA Draft.
Back in May of 2017, transfer and former Manual high school graduate Dwayne Sutton was extended a scholarship, after initially committing to the program as a walk-on. However, as with most collegiate athletic scholarships, that was only guaranteed for one year. There is a chance that Chris Mack will keep the junior forward on scholarship, especially after the way he performed this past season. But if not, that will free up another scholarship, leaving the Cards with four spots to fill.
In an interview with the Courier-Journal’s Jeff Greer this past weekend at the Final Four in San Antonio Chris Mack talked about filling the holes that the Cardinals currently have on the roster.
"“There are holes regardless of if everyone comes back, and we’re working to do everything we can to make sure those holes are filled to make sure we have a complete team that can compete both in the ACC and nationally next year.”"
With that in mind, let’s take a look at the four guards who have been reportedly received interest from the Louisville coaching staff about joining the 2018-19 roster.
