Louisville Basketball: Breaking down potential graduate transfer options

Guard – Zach Johnson – Florida Gulf Coast

2017-18 stats: 16.1 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 3.0 apg

Schools interested: Gonzaga, VCU, Oklahoma, Miami, Creighton, Saint Louis, Xavier

I’m starting to sense a theme when it comes to players that are receiving interest from Louisville. Chris Mack is desperate to get another experienced guard on the roster, and Zach Johnson from Florida Gulf Coast would be a nice choice.

Johnson spent his first three years at Florida Gulf Coast, AKA Dunk City, where in his final season he was the teams second leading scorer, shooting 47% from the field and 40% from deep.

Just like Cunningham and Cremo, Johnson is capable of putting up big scoring numbers, doing so in a variety of ways. He’s an extremely athletic guard, with nice length, capable of taking his defender off the bounce to the basket, or knocking down an open shot from outside.

I’ve not seen a lot of Zach Johnson, but from what I have watched this season and last, I can tell  that the 6’2 guard would be a nice compliment to Darius Perry when on the floor together.

Johnson could also provide a nice scoring lift off the bench, putting up 6+ games of 20 or more points, including 37 points in the teams conference championship against Lipscomb.

Miami, Gonzaga, and Oklahoma are all pursuing Johnson, but it seems that at this point Louisville may be near the top of his list.
