Head Coach Bobby Petrino and the Louisville football program are hot on the trail of a local rising recruit, and have recently offered him a scholarship for the 2019 season.

Though the Louisville football program has just two commitments in the class of 2019, the staff has been getting after it on the recruiting trail, attempting to bring in another top 25 class.

While they have been recruiting hard in their traditional pipeline states of Georgia, Alabama, and Florida, there is one state that seems to have more talent than ever for the Cards to recruit. That state being Kentucky. More specifically the city of Louisville.

With one of the most talented classes in recent memory, including players like Milton Wright, JJ Weaver, Aidan Robbins, and plenty of others, the Cards have found another player in town who they decided was worthy of a scholarship.

After being given a fourth star, and receiving several big time scholarship offers, the Louisville Cardinals brought in Ballard linebacker Jared Casey, and offered him a scholarship this past week.

In a story posted by Rivals.com Recruiting Expert Dave Lackford, Casey went in depth about his meeting with the entire Louisville staff and how they saw him fitting in, should he chose to stay home.

Casey told Lackford, “Coach VanGorder compared me to Jaylon Smith from his time at Notre Dame and said I’m his top priority at linebacker… (Petrino) wanted me to be the first local kid to commit and help keep all the local talent home,.”

After transferring to Ballard from Trinity High School and then missing his entire junior season due to an injury, Casey, an already underrated prospect, had a lot of work to do in order to catch the eyes of major D-1. However, after a strong showing in several big-time camps, Casey began to show the signs of being an elite linebacker prospect. He received offers from Oregon, Kentucky, Cincinnati, and plenty of others before finally being offered by the Cards, just days after Rivals recruiting services deemed him a four star prospect.

Coach VanGorder compared me to Jaylon Smith from his time at Notre Dame and said I’m his top priority at linebacker.

Casey mentioned that Oregon, and Cincinnati, along with the Cards, have been recruiting him the hardest, but at this point he doesn’t have a favorite. But if Casey were to pick a school based off of who he grew up watching and being a fan of, Louisville would be that school.

The recruitment of Jared Casey is likely only to pick up in the coming weeks as more and more schools get familar with the rising prospect, but according to the Ballard product, that recruitment won’t go long. Casey has plans to decide on a school sometime late this summer before his senior season begins.

The Cards have had a lot of success in recruiting talented linebackers over the last three years, landing big time talent such as Dorian Etheridge and Robert Hicks.

After Butler receiver Demontae Crumes decided to decommit from the Louisville football program and reopen his recruiting, and then seeing three star defensive end, and Doss high school star Shawnkel Knight-Goff pick the Wildcats last week, Head Coach Bobby Petrino needs a BIG win in this state more than ever. If a school like Oregon, or another blue blood program is able to pull Casey, along with Milton Wright and Aidan Robbins out of state, expect fans to have a lot of questions about Petrino’s ability to land in-state talent.
