Louisville Basketball Recruiting: Who is Anthony Higgs?

Louisville basketball has offered a 2018 recruit who has been mostly unheard of until late. Can Chris Mack and company land a key piece in 3-star Anthony Higgs?

Louisville basketball’s 2018 recruiting is picking up late.

three-star small forward out of Baltimore may not sound that impressive. But Louisville – and Chris Mack – have done more with less before.

There isn’t a whole lot of tape on Anthony Higgs currently, but at 6’8″ and 200 pounds, the potential is most definitely there. Plus, we all know that the Cards can use some more bodies this year.

But Higgs could be more than just another body.

A former Louisville player that comes to mind for me is Chane Behanan, because of their similarities in body type and energy. Chane had a few post moves, but he was mostly a rebounding bruiser in the paint, making his living under the rim and always giving everything he had. Anthony Higgs has a couple of inches on Behanan, as well as decent ball handling skills, and a 3-point shot that looks pretty sweet.

He is only 200 pounds at the moment, but everyone knows once these young guys get going in college strength and conditioning programs, it’s not long before those numbers go up. Higgs is already a solid rebounder, and not afraid to get into the paint and do some bruising of his own. He’s also good at dunking on people.

Check out his senior year highlights here for proof.

With some more weight on him, Higgs could turn into a key piece for the Cards this year if he commits. He is relentless on both ends of the floor and unafraid of contact. Louisville fans love their “dogs”: those guys with fight in them, who are going to give 110% every time on the court. I believe Anthony Higgs is one of those guys.

I have the feeling Higgs could become a Russ Smith type of player for Louisville – an underdog with little to no hype around him nationally, just waiting on the chance to show everyone what he’s got on the biggest stage in college basketball. That’s also why I think the Cards have a good chance to land him. Louisville is certainly the most high profile offer on his list, and everyone knows the Cardinals are on the rise in a big way.

Let’s see what kind of splash Coach Mack can make with this guy, coming in a little later in his recruitment. Hopefully for us, Louisville will be too good for Higgs to pass up.
