Louisville Football: 5 Players Primed for Breakout Seasons
By Jacob Lane
Bobby Petrino and the Louisville football program have several guys who will fly under the radar this summer and fall, that could have a big impact on the 2018-19 season.
There’s been a lot more talk about the upcoming Louisville football season over the last few weeks, as we inch closer to Cardinal sports returning.
Bobby Petrino and his team have a lot of questions to answer as they replace 14 starters from last years team, including former Heisman Trophy winner and first round pick Lamar Jackson. Even with several star players moving on, the Cards return a lot of talent and bring in even more from their 2018 recruiting class.
Jawon Pass will have his hands full taking over the offense, replacing one of the greatest college football players of all time, but there is a lot of weapons at his disposal. Some players we know a lot about, and some not so much. On the other side of the ball, new defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder will need to replace nine starters, including his entire secondary, but there is so much talent that if coached up, the Cards could have several breakout stars.
Last year Dez Fitzpatrick, Dorian Etheridge, and Jonathan Greenard were just a few of the breakout stars, and trust me when I say there are 10+ guys on this years roster who could have the same kind of impact.
I’ve already talked a lot about a few “obvious” breakout players such as Greenard, Rodjay Burns, Russ Yeast, Dee Smith, and a handful of others, who will be instrumental in helping Louisville win games. So today, we look at five players who you may not know or may not be talking about, who could have big breakout seasons and become household names around the Louisville area.
Let’s get to it.
