Louisville Basketball: Top 15 Players of the 2000’s: 3-1
By Jacob Lane
#2 – Terrence Williams (2006-2009)
Career Stats: 11.2 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 3.9 apg, 1.5 spg, 1.6 bpg
Confident, brash, and freakishly athletic, Terrence Williams is one of the greatest pure athletes to ever play for the Cards. “TWill” was a walking highlight reel, who was capable of doing whatever he wanted with the ball in his hands.
At 6’6,” 220 pounds, his game in college was often similar to Lebron James. He obviously never reached that kind of potential, but he was a do it all type of player. His senior season, he averaged 12.5 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 5 assists a game in 34 minutes per game of action.
Williams is arguably one of the best dunkers to ever come through Louisville, and was seemingly good for at least one unbelievably athletic play per game.
Williams will be remembered by many for his confidence and cockiness on the court, but that is often what made him so special. He had the ability to take almost anyone off the dribble, and finish emphatically, or athletically, or find the open man.
Williams was a leader on one of the best Louisville teams ever that won a ridiculously good Big East Conference in 2009, and earned the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournement.
TWill will always be one of the fan favorites because of his electrifying style of play, and involvement with some of the greatest teams in the last couple decades.
