Depth Chart

If the season started today, here is how I would expect the Cards secondary to look:

Corner

  • PJ Mbanasor
  • Chandler Jones

Safety

  • Dee Smith
  • Trenell Troutman

Safety

  • TreSean Smith
  • Khane Pass

Corner

  • Rodjay Burns
  • Russ Yeast

Nickle Package

  • Marlon Character
  • PJ Blue

There is not a ton of experience in the secondary, but what the Cards have is great depth. With Brian VanGorder in his first season, it will ease the sting of having a number of young players. It will also make it a lot easier for the Cards’s DB’s to get into the mindset of playing aggressively, and running to the ball- something VanGorder preaches in his defensive philosophy.

Most aren’t sold on the potential of this Cardinals secondary, but barring major injuries, they will be ready for the challenge right away.

Louisville’s secondary has what it takes to have an incredible year, and be the glue that holds an inexperienced defense together.
