The University of Louisville basketball team was the latest to offer rising 2019 point guard Tyrell Jones.

Louisville basketball coach Chris Mack has his eyes on a lot of four and five star prospects in the class of 2019.

The Cards- who have already landed consensus four star Josh Nickelberry- have extended offers and are in the mix for a lot of top 25 and top 50 talent. However, Chris Mack and company have also offered a lesser-known player who could shake things up for the Cards in 2019.

Tyrell Jones, a 6โ€™2,โ€ 170 pound point guard from Orlando, Florida, is making waves on the recruiting trail. Still not even rated by many major scouting sites, Jones has burst onto to the scene this summer.

Jones is a 4-star player, and ranked just outside the top 100 in 247 Sportsโ€™s composite ratings. He had virtually no love from power five schools until very recently, but has received offers from Tennessee, Oklahoma State, and Auburn among others just since July 15th.

Mack was on site in Las Vegas this week and, according to Jonesโ€™s Twitter account, has extended an official scholarship offer to the guard.

Jones has a ton of upside to his game. It appears that he has hit his stride and just begun to show his potential over the summer. His ball handling is extremely impressive, and he is money from 3-point range. Though he is certainly a score-first player who can create his own shot, and keep defenders at bay on the way to the basket, donโ€™t underestimate Jonesโ€™s ability to distribute as well.

He is listed at 170 pounds, but he has a really solid frame, and could add some significant weight as he continues to grow.

The first comparison that comes to mind when watching Jones is Terry Rozier. Though fellow Louisville recruit Rocket Watts idolizes Rozier- and rightfully draws some comparisons- Jones has a similar game. Rozier was a prolific scorer and defender as a high schooler, and Jones brings the same kind of smooth ball handling and decision-making.

Youโ€™ll see that Jones has a scorers mentality. He takes his time to pick apart defenders, creates separation using smooth, skilled ball handling, and knifes past them with aggression. He is a crafty scorer, sneaky on defense, and has a fairly consistent jumper. All reports indicate that Jones was on fire from deep in Vegas this week, and coach Mack took notice.

It could be surmised that other big-name schools will offer quickly, and Louisville will have their hands full trying to land Jones as he ascends the rankings. But, being the biggest name school to offer thus far has to carry some weight.

Mack is not afraid to take a lot of guards. Even with the commitment of Nickelberry already, and 6โ€™4โ€ณ Louisville Trinity guard David Johnson also heavily favored to commit to the Cards, the staff is still not close to being done recruiting the guard position. As mentioned already, four-star Rocket Watts is in the mix, and four-star Jahmius Ramsey is a Louisville-lean.

Jones, though, could add another dimension to the Louisville roster in 2019. Thereโ€™s still a long road ahead in regards to filling out the entire class, but expect Louisville to have serious competition for Tyrell Jones for the foreseeable future.
