After having one of the best offenses in the country the last few years, if Louisville struggles offensively this season what’s the biggest reason?
Presley Meyer: Pass isn’t ready. All signs point towards Puma being prepared for the moment, but we won’t know until he is THE guy out there this season. The receivers, offensive line, and tight ends are mostly proven and have great depth. Pass is still one of the bigger question marks until we actually see him under center for the first snaps of the game.
Ethan Sprowles: The running game. The running backs have got to stay healthy, and this team has to find a way to make the defense respect the run. Bobby and the team have not been able to do that in recent years outside of Lamar. If this team can establish a traditional running game similar to old Bobby Ball, the sky is the limit for this offense.
Ty Spalding: The biggest reason that Louisville struggles will be if Puma is a let-down. Louisville simply can’t afford failure at the quarterback position.
Ross Prophater: Puma got hurt. I could sit here and try and manufacture an answer, but I honestly at heart wouldn’t believe it. While I think Lamar was great and out up outrageous numbers, I think this year’s offensive efficiency and red zone numbers will be better. I think scoring drives will be often and I think they’ll be more methodical controlling more clock and tempo. The OLine, RBs, TEs & WRs are all perfectly built for Puma to run this offense and long as he isn’t hurt, this offense will do big things!
All around, everything is in place for Bobby Petrino’s offense to continue to build off of the success of Lamar Jackson and the Cardinals over the past three years. As Petrino has said on several occasions, there is potential for this offense to actually be better.
Behind a balanced attack, a dynamic pocket passer, and less risks for turnovers, the Louisville offense could be in store for a huge season in 2018-19.
