Louisville Football: Cards Trending for Big 3 Star Wide Receiver
By Eric Nunn
Three star wide receiver, Stanley King, will make his college choice on Wednesday. Louisville football seems to be trending in the right direction at the right time.
Louisville football has been on fire the last few weeks on the recruiting trail as of late, picking up a few big commits along with staying in the thick of things with a couple elite prospects in the class of 2019.
The ‘19 recruiting class is currently ranked 54th according to 247 Sports headlined by the commitments of TE Austin Griffin (#1 JUCO TE), QB Jaden Johnson (20th ranked QB) and DT Denzel Daxon, the former Miami commit who has only been playing football for 13 months.
Even with a lot of depth and versatility coming in at the tight end position, a lot of potential on the defensive line, and a solid quarterback of the future, Bobby Petrino and his staff still don’t have any commitments at the primary skill positions, running back and wide receiver.
It seems that-that could be changing in the coming days, as Stanley King, a giant wide receiver from Camden, NJ is closing in on making his commitment public. 247 Sports, who is usually pretty accurate when it comes to crystal ball picks, currently has a Louisville commitment at 90%.
The 6’5″ 175 pound, 3-star receiver holds offers from Louisville, as well as, Boston College, Cincinnati, North Carolina State, Virginia, and a plethora of other schools. King visited the Cards just a few weeks ago to participate in the Louisville camp, receiving an offer shortly after.
King has great size and even better length similar to that of another former Bobby Petrino wide receiver, Mario Urrutia. King can high point the ball and catch just about anything thrown in his direction. He is mainly a deep threat and red zone threat on the field, but has the speed to get past opposing defensive backs. You can also tell he is a very good route runner with great feel for where he is on the field, as well as the ability to change direction quickly.
It was a nice surprise to see his ability to go up and make the hard catches look easy. He’ll definitely need to put some weight on once he gets to the collegiate level, but you tell he has the frame to add weight.
Louisville has a lot of talent returning next year (2019-20) at the wide receiver position headlined by Dez Fitzpatrick (assuming he doesn’t head off to the NFL as a draft eligible sophomore), Seth Dawkins, Tyler Harrell, Marcus Riley, Corey Reed, Josh Johnson, Tutu Atwell, and Justin Marshall. However, the team will lose leading receiver Jaylen Smith.
Wide receiver is certainly not a priority in this class with so much talent returning, however getting a player who the coaching staff believes can be a weapon down the road is something you never turn away.
Even if King does commit, I fully expect to see Louisville continue to put the full court press on Christian Academy’s Milton Wright.
