Louisville Football: Evaluating 3-Star WR Stanley King

The Louisville Football program added to their already impressive recruiting class this week with the commitment of 3-star wide receiver Stanley King. What does he bring to the table for the Cards?

Louisville football landed its 12th commitment in the 2019 class. This time they went north to Camden, NJ and received the commitment of rising 2019 WR, Stanley King, out of Woodrow Wilson High School. He’s the 6th commitment in the #UNCAGED19 class in the past 6 weeks and the 3rd commitment since Light Up The Ville back on July 27th.  The Cards held off a big push from local hometown school Rutgers to earn King’s commitment. Amongst other finalists on his list were Virginia, Maryland and Toledo.

King is a great addition to the ’19 class as he continues the trend of what Bobby and the staff are looking for this recruiting cycle; bigger play makers who use their height/length/speed combination to create mismatches for opposing defenders. A shift from the recruiting philosophy the staff employed this past recruiting cycle, King and his skill set will be a nice compliment to the small, fast, shifty WR’s who he’ll play alongside.

What King Brings As A Player

King is a tall, rangy, deceptively fast WR with a long gait.  He really breaks well off the line and uses his first 10 yards to get into the DB in their back pedal.  King is a big leaper who can really high point the football. He had a tremendous set of hands, maybe some of the best in the entire ’19 class. With King, if you throw it up in his vicinity, he’s going to come down with it!

He’s a major vertical threat outside the hashes who will be an even greater target in the red zone. He’s a more than capable blocker in the run game as he doesn’t mind using his long frame and strong upper body to get physical and finish blocks.

King is on record saying he grew up a fan of West Virginia and watching all their games, which is ironic because my immediate comparison that came to mind as I was watching his junior highlight tape was a former West Virginia WR.  If you want a good comparison of what kind of player and production Stanley King can be for the Cards under Bobby Petrino, look no further than former West Virginia and Bengals 3rd round pick, WR Chris Henry.

Henry at WVU in a similarly receiver friendly offense in 2 seasons had 93 receptions for 1878 yards with 22 TDs with a 20.2 Rec. Avg. That’s the kind of player and impact Stanley King can be for the Cards.

And if you weren’t excited enough for the addition of King, he’s also a bit of a throwback.  He unashamedly sports an awesome set of goggles channeling his inner former 2x Pro Bowl and Super Bowl winning CB, Joe Lavender.
