Louisville Football: Game-by-Game Predictions for the Cards in 2018
By Jacob Lane
Bobby Petrino ain’t walkin through that door… Well he is, but…
Look, in all seriousness, this game is just challenging enough that you might have to come back to your seat for the second half. I like that Louisville wasn’t scared to put WKU on their schedule, and in another year this is a serious trap game. But, it isn’t that year and Western is going to need more than in-state rivalry motivation to take down the Cards.
Western Kentucky has been a very very good football team the past several years under Jeff Brohm, and even one year under Mike Sanford, but in 2018 they enter into what should be a true rebuilding year.
After losing star QB Mike White and LB Joel Iyiegbuniwe to the NFL, and several other contributors from the 2017-18 Military Bowl team, Mike Sanford will need a near perfect performance from his young team to knock off Louisville.
The Cards should be able to rip off several big plays against a mediocre Hilltopper defense, while hopefully setting the tone defensively. If not, things could be a bit tougher than you’d might expect.
However, I fully expect Bobby and staff to put their foot on the gas and continue to build the teams confidence up as they head into the ACC schedule. This is a game that could be over by halftime.
Jacob’s Prediction: Louisville 48, Western Kentucky 17
Presley’s Prediction: Louisville 56 , Western Kentucky 24
Louisville record: 2-1
