Stock up, stock down for Louisville football after losing to Alabama
By Jacob Lane
In their first game of the season Louisville football disappointed to say the least, taking a 51-14 whooping. Heading into week two, who’s stock is up and who’s stock is down?
Maybe, just maybe, we shouldn’t open the season against the #1 team in the country for a few years? After three+ years of anticipation, Louisville football took the field in Orlando on Saturday against the most dominant college football program in the modern era.
The Cards had a lot of question marks coming into the game, but a lot, and I mean a lot, to be optimistic about. Not only did Bobby Petrino believe, but the entire team believed they could take down the mighty Alabama Crimson Tide.
Well, with hindsight being 20/20, that confidence may have been a tad bit foolish. I mean, Alabama has lost just three times over the last three years, and hasn’t dropped a season opener since 2001. I’ll give it to the team, believing they could win helped fuel them to work harder all summer. One more rep, one more route ran, one more snap, etc. was the mentality and that hard work will no doubt pay off later in the season, as they won’t face another team with the fire power and brute strength of Alabama until Clemson.
Amidst all the poor play, bad mental mistakes, and lack of fundamentals, there were positives to takeaway. I know it’s hard to look at a game like that and see those the good, but I think Cardinal fans may look back and be thankful that-that game happened early on in the season, rather than later.
Now, with week two coming up, we move on and don’t look back.
Let’s take a look at who’s stock is up and who’s stock is down heading into the Cardinals home opener at new look Cardinal Stadium against the 1-0 Indiana State Sycamores.
