Louisville basketball received some big news today with the announcement of five star center Aidan Igiehon booking his official visit.

Ask any Louisville basketball fan who they are hoping Chris Mack will land in the 2019 recruiting class, and I’m willing to bet you anything I have that 95% or more will say Aidan Igiehon.

By now you’re likely very familar with Igiehon, but if you’re not here’s what you need to know. According to Rivals, 6’8″, 215 pound dunking machine, Aidan Igiehon is a five center who is ranked as the 27th best player in the class of 2019. By way of Ireland, Igiehon currently resides in Woodmere, NY and will suit up for Woodmere Academy this winter.

The Irish Hulk gained notably notoriety this summer after strong play on the Under Armour circuit for Team Rio. The Cards offered him shortly after Chris Mack was named the Head Coach at Louisville and since have made it very clear that he is their #1 priority for 2019.

It doesn’t take long to tell why that’s the case when you watch highlights of Igiehon. His ability to make shots from the mid range, rebound at a high level, and of course tear the rim down like another former Card, Montrezl Harrell, all have made him a fan favorite before he even stepped foot onto the Louisville campus.

After an unofficial visit earlier this summer, Igiehon trimmed his list to 10, including the Cards in the process. Just last week once again the 6’8 big man trimmed his list, this time down to four, once again keeping the Cards around.

Louisville seems to be the favorite at this point to land Igiehon, but with Kentucky, Oregon, and St. John’s all on his tail, getting the big man on campus was of the upmost importance for the Cardinals this fall.

Josh Nickelberry, Louisville’s only current 2019 commit, told Ethan Moore of Louisville Sports Live that he would be visiting Louisville alongside of another UofL target, Jaelyn Withers in September. Nickelberry also mentioned he’d like to get Igiehon on campus the same weekend.

Whatever Nickelberry had to say to Igiehon clearly worked, as it was announced this afternoon by college basketball reporter, Adam Zagoria, that Aidan Igiehon will officially visit the University of Louisville the weekend of September 28th and 29th. While he won’t join Nickelberry and Withers, making an official visit to the Ville is a huge deal in his recruitment.

Even with that weekend being a big weekend for the University, the basketball program stepped it up a notch by announcing a new event titled “Louisville Live.” On Friday the 28th at Fourth Street Live, the basketball team will host a live practice in front of thousands of fans in a twist on the traditional college basketball Midnight Madness. This no doubt will be a big recruiting tool, in which I fully expect the coaching staff to roll out the red carpet for Igiehon.

Igiehon will also visit Oregon two weeks before, a school who has been hot on the recruiting trail over the last few years, and is a huge threat to Louisville. He’s still also being pursued heavily by arch rival, Kentucky and St. John’s.

Big Red Louie contributor Tanner Hickman told us that September will be Chris Mack’s biggest month yet as the head coach of Louisville, and that now looks to be very true.

Omar Payne is a name you need to know. dark. Next

Louisville will also receive visits from Tyrell Jones, Jahmius Ramsey, Drew Timme (in-home), Orlando Robinson, and Jason Jitoboh in September.

Strap in folks, we’ve got a big few months ahead!
