Louisville Basketball: Samuell Williamson commits to the Cards
By Jacob Lane
Louisville basketball picked up a huge commitment tonight from four star wing Samuell Williamson.
Chris Mack and his staff continue to get it done on the recruiting trail for the Louisville basketball program. After securing a commitment from four star forward, Jaelyn Withers, the Cards landed a commitment from another elite wing, Samuell Williamson.
Williamson, a 6’6″ 170 pound forward out of Rockwall, Texas, visited the Louisville campus over the weekend, even participating in the team’s second “players only” open scrimmage. Many fans left the baby Yum! Center impressed with the talent of Williamson, a dynamic wing who can do just about everything on the court.
Chris Mack and the coaching staff from Louisville have been on Williamson all summer long, making him a top priority after taking over as the new coach for the Cards. Rated as the 44th best player and 11th best forward, Williamson showed his talents having offers from the likes of Texas, Kansas, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech.
Many believed it would be nearly impossible to get the longtime Texas Longhorn fan out of the state of Texas or the Midwest even, but Chris Mack did just enough to get him to commit to Louisville.

Prior to Williamson coming to Louisville, the crystal ball was leaning heavily in the favor of Kansas, but after a visit with AAU teammate, Jahmius Ramsey, and the commitment of Christian Braun, Williamson pulled the trigger and committed to Louisville.
As I mentioned on Friday before beginning his official visit, Williamson is an extremely long and athletic wing who can do it all. Playing for The Drive this summer on the Nike EYBL circuit, Williamson displayed great shooting ability, balling handling skills and an ability to beat players off the bounce. Many have said that he has a game very similar to former Duke and now Boston Celtic star, Jayson Tatum. If that’s the case, Chris Mack and the Cards are set up for success for many years to come.
At 6’6, Williamson will play a hybrid three/four position for the Cards in the new Chris Mack 4-in-1-out offensive system. Williamson will be replied upon as a go to scorer whenever Jordan Nwora and VJ King depart from The Ville, and also has the potential to be a serious rebounder and defender for the Cards.
Louisville has three big time commitments in Josh Nickelberry, Jaelyn Withers, and Samuell Williamson and have a top five recruiting class according to 247 Sports.
The fun isn’t anywhere near being over, as next weekend Mack and his staff will play host to five star center Aidan Ighieon, a top target for the Cards, and guard Rocket Watts for the highly anticipated “Louisville Live.”
