Stock up, stock down for Louisville football after Western Kentucky
By Jacob Lane
Stock up – Malik Cunningham
Give me all of the Malik Cunningham stock.
Bobby Petrino announced on Monday that Cunningham is going to be the starter going forward, and with good reason. Puma Pass has been off lately, and Cunningham has been what the doctor ordered.
His game certainly leaves much to be desired, but as a guy who wasn’t expected to start at all this season, Cunningham has flat out been the best player on the field and the reason the Cards have won their last two games.
After 88 yards passing, and 121 yards rushing on 21 carries against WKU, Cunningham will look to get it going through the air just a little more this week against Virginia.
As mentioned before, he could be a real threat this season if he can hit his tight ends across the middle, or play some dink-and-dunk game with the running backs.
In a season where there isn’t much to be excited about for the Cards to this point, be ecstatic with Cunningham’s potential.
Stock up – Jarrett Jackson
Buy all of the Jarrett Jackson stock. All of it. As impressive as Robert Hicks has been this season, Jackson has been right there with him.
At 6 foot 6, 281 pounds, Jackson is an NFL-sized talent right now as a true freshman. He is a human missile coming off of the line of scrimmage, and as he improves fundamentally the sky is the limit for this guy.
Jackson has done an admirable job helping fill in for Jonathan Greenard and others on a banged up defensive line. He has recorded a solo sack in the last two games, and already has 12 tackles and two tackles for loss on the season.
Jackson is going to be expected to continue to improve as the season goes on and the competition gets tougher.
