Louisville Basketball: Aidan Igiehon Nearing Decision at Perfect Time for Cards

Louisville basketball is narrowing in on their top target, Aidan Igiehon, and all signs point toward “The Irish Hulk” committing at just the right time for the Cards.

Louisville basketball has never had a recruiting class quite like this.

The Cards, led by first-year head coach Chris Mack, have secured strong verbal commitments from four top 100 players. Almost every one of Mack’s biggest targets have already committed.

Still, Louisville’s biggest fish is left to fry in 6 foot 10, 220 pound Irishman Aidan Harris Igiehon has narrowed his choices to four schools: Oregon, Kentucky, St. John’s, and the Cards.

As we wrote in early July, Igiehon would be a program-changer for Louisville. He isn’t out of the reach the level of recruit Louisville has become accustomed to, but what he brings to the table is a skill set that makes Louisville an instant top 10 team- regardless of the pieces around him.

Sure, it takes a team to win championships, but Igiehon brings a mentality and a toughness along with that skill set that just makes him different.

From the moment I saw this feature on him, Igiehon has been my favorite player in this 2019 class and he will probably become yours too.

Igiehon has been pursued the hardest by Louisville and St. John’s. Since moving to New York as a teenager, St. John’s has had home field advantage for Igiehon’s services.

But that hasn’t stopped Chris Mack from proving that Igiehon is a priority for him. Igiehon has mentioned how comfortable the relationship is with Mack, and raved over his unofficial visit to Louisville in late June and again on an in-home visit from Mack in early September.

Mack has gone to all lengths to land “The Irish Hulk,” even traveling all the way to Ireland for a day to visit his mother.

If the Cards don’t land Aidan, it’s not for a lack of trying.

As the summer went on, Igiehon drew Louisville crystal ball predictions from some 247Sports’ biggest name insiders.

And now, with Louisville’s biggest recruiting event of the year- Louisville Live- looming large this Friday, and Igiehon set to visit the event and the Louisville-Florida State football game on Saturday, he posted the following on Instagram:

“Decisions soon come.”

Now, Igiehon could be into horoscopes or fortune cookie messages, but to me that sounds like my man is making an announcement in the very near future.

It is probably a good thing that Igiehon is visiting the school that he is heavily favored to attend while thousands of fans will be in attendance pumped to cheer him on.

With Kentucky and St. John’s in on Igiehon until the very end, Mack had to make all of the right moves to move Louisville into the lead.

Now, this weekend, Louisville looks to close in on a commitment from one of it’s best recruits ever. And it’s hard to imagine a situation being more favorable than this.
