Louisville basketball roundtable: Looking back at a historic offseason
By Jacob Lane
What was the most disappointing part of the off-season?
Ethan Sprowles: Honestly, nothing. 8 months ago lots of fans and talking heads were claiming that it would take years for Louisville to recover, and it already feels like we’re back. Is there a lot of work to do? Are things still gonna take a little bit of time to get better? Is the road ahead still gonna be a little bumpy? Most likely. But the important thing is that the wind is back in the sails of this basketball program.
GTC: Missing out on a post player in the grad transfer market. Steven Enoch cannot play 40 minutes and post play is where this Cardinals team is thin. Malik Williams is not a back to the basket, rebound machine and Akoy Agau and Dwayne Sutton are not Centers so to have them spending minutes there, even if playing small ball will have them playing out of position.
Jacob Lane: This is a tough question to answer, because literally every single thing that could go right this offseason went right. But if I had to be nitpicky, I think it would have been nice to bring in one freshman in the class of 2018 if at all possible. When Chris Mack got to town he did his best to reach out to guys like Courtney Ramey, a former Louisville commit, and New Albany’s own Romeo Langford (pre-Indiana commitment). It was just too late in the game and Mack couldn’t make it work. Again, I’m not complaining because not landing a freshman meant the Cards could take a scholarship hit to fulfill their NCAA punishment, which led to a monster six man class in 2019.
Ross Prophater: Losing Ray Ganong. He’ll be a Louisville treasure forever!
